How Does Flex Work?

Flex uses the same RFID tag detection technology as Proximity Warning Core - workers wear standard SensorZone personnel tags, and the Flex unit scans for those tags in a full 360-degree field around the vehicle. When a tag enters the configurable warning zone, the system triggers audible and visual alerts for the driver, and the worker's personal tag vibrates.

The main differences are the form factor of the hardware and the pricing model. The Flex unit combines the separate hardware components of Core (aside from the in-cab display) into one magnetically mounted unit that sits on top of the forklift. We also offer a monthly subscription model to make it easy to scale up and down the number of units you have.

70%

of forklift accidents are considered preventable

OSHA data shows that forklifts are responsible for around 85 fatalities and 34,900 serious injuries to workers each year. Traditional safety measures such as mirrors, horns, and floor markings are helpful but passive. SensorZone Flex introduces an active, real-time safety layer that alerts both operators and pedestrian workers before a collision can occur.

Frequently Asked Questions About SensorZone Flex

Can Flex be used alongside existing forklift safety systems such as perimeter lights and halos?

Yes. SensorZone Flex is designed to enhance, not replace, your existing safety setup. Systems such as halos and perimeter lights serve as useful visual indicators, but they depend on individuals observing and reacting to them. SensorZone Flex introduces an active, real-time safety measure by delivering audible and haptic alerts directly to operators and pedestrian workers when someone enters the detection zone. Rather than replicate existing procedures, Flex addresses the gaps and provides actionable data to improve worksite safety.

How much does SensorZone Flex cost?

SensorZone Flex is available from $149 per month per forklift. This includes the proximity warning hardware, personnel tags, installation, training, ongoing maintenance, and access to the Insights Platform analytics dashboard. There is no upfront capital expenditure required. Contact our team for a personalized quote based on your fleet size and requirements.

How long does it take to install SensorZone Flex on a forklift?

Installation is typically completed in under one hour per forklift. Our engineers handle the full installation process, including mounting the detection hardware, configuring the detection zones for your specific warehouse layout, and testing the system before handover. Most fleets can be fully equipped within a single day.

What types of warehouse or facility is SensorZone Flex suitable for?

SensorZone Flex is suitable for any indoor or outdoor environment where forklifts operate near pedestrian workers. This includes warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturing plants, loading docks, cold storage facilities, and retail backroom areas. The system works effectively regardless of racking density, ambient noise levels, or lighting conditions because it uses RFID technology rather than line-of-sight detection.

How are the personnel tags managed?

Each worker is issued a lightweight SensorZone RFID tag that can be worn on a lanyard, clipped to clothing, or attached to a hard hat. Tags do not require charging or batteries and will last for several years of continuous use. Tags are assigned and tracked through the Insights Platform, making it straightforward to issue, reassign, or deactivate tags as your workforce changes.

Is there a minimum contract length for SensorZone Flex?

SensorZone Flex is designed to be flexible. Contact our team to discuss subscription terms that suit your business requirements. We offer arrangements that allow you to scale up or down as your fleet size changes, without being locked into rigid long-term commitments.

What kind of data and analytics does the Insights Platform provide?

The Insights Platform provides real-time and historical data on every proximity event detected by your SensorZone Flex systems. This includes heat maps showing where near-miss events concentrate in your facility, trend analysis tracking safety performance over time, individual vehicle and worker activity reports, and exportable data for compliance audits. The platform helps you identify high-risk areas, measure the effectiveness of safety interventions, and demonstrate continuous improvement to stakeholders.

Does SensorZone Flex help with OSHA compliance?

While SensorZone Flex is not a substitute for a comprehensive OSHA compliance program, it directly supports compliance by providing an active safety layer for powered industrial truck operations. The data generated by the Insights Platform can be used to demonstrate duty of care, document near-miss investigations, and provide evidence of proactive safety measures during regulatory audits or inspections.
